Two cars or one?

I often find myself pondering my impact on the environment. One such issue that concerns me is the impact my gas-guzzling car has. Recently, I’ve been averaging 27.9MPG (23.2MPG (US) or 10.1 litres/100km), which is pretty hard to justify given that most of it is on the commute to and from work.

Given that Satan will be wearing ice skates before I give up sporty cars altogether, would the world be better off if I got a second, more frugal car for commuting to and from work? Or would the impact of this car’s production be a worse deal overall? I wish there were somewhere I could go to ask an expert about this kind of thing.

Next week, using the toilet at work: paper towels, hand drier, or wipe-them-on-your-trousers? :)

Comments:
Ok, before you all say it, yes, I should be cycling into work. I'm a bad man.

Depends what the 2nd car is :-p Does that mean the Mini's staying?

Yeah - for the next 6 months, at least. I don't think my nerves would withstand worrying about a nicer car being parked in the street where I'm living at the moment. :-/

What worries me is that I was considering the hand-drying toilet question only the other day.

Well, I think the wipe-them-on-your-trousers approach is the clear winner there. Provided you've got suitably absorbent pants and it doesn't look like you've wet yourself, that is. :)

If you want a really good about-town commuters car, why not a Smart? I've owned one since I started driving, and it's a dream. To fill her up costs £13 - a .6ltr engine which goes like stink (ask any smart owner) :D

Someone at work had a new Civic 2.2 diesel as a courtesy car today. He normally drives a Honda Prelude, not a slow car. He said the Civic was fast and he wants one now.

Are you lot ganging up on me?!? :)
